WH Group confirms African swine flu outbreak at China factory


WH Group, the world’s largest pork producer, said it had discovered cases of African swine flu among dozens of pigs culled at a factory in central China, marking the second known outbreak this month in a country that eats more pork per person than any other.

The company said in an exchange filing on Friday morning that the disease had been detected among 30 pigs killed on Tuesday in the central Chinese province of Henan. The slaughterhouse in question is run by a subsidiary of WH Group and China’s biggest meat processor, Shuanghui.

WH Group said it had suspended and closed the slaughterhouse where the disease was reported on Thursday.
