Watching the Caribbean For Tropical Development


NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) – We are continuing to monitor an area of low pressure off the Central American coast as it drifts north. Strong wind shear in the northern Caribbean sea had stifled development, but as the shear subsides the upper level environment will be more favorable for a tropical depression to form in the next day or so. The forecast from the National Hurricane Center now calls for a high chance that either a depression or tropical storm to form in the northern Caribbean or central Gulf of Mexico with an 80% likelihood over the next 2 days and 90% likelihood over the next 5 days.
