Unemployment benefits for federal employees in Puerto Rico announced – Caribbean Business

SAN JUAN – The secretary of the Department of Labor and Human Resources (DTRH), Carlos Saavedra Gutiérrez, said Tuesday that unemployment insurance benefits are available to employees affected by the temporary closure of federal government operations.

“The federal government began its partial closure of operations on December 22, 2018, and employees living in Puerto Rico have the right to claim Unemployment Insurance. They must fill out two documents that certify that they work for the federal government and for which agency, and then they can make the claim through the Department of Labor,” the secretary explained in a statement.
