Time for intra trade sincerity – Punch Newspapers

For too long, Africa has paid lip service to the cultivation of intra-continental trade as the undisputed panacea for its economic development. At this age when the recurrent concern of the annual Summit of African leaders on the platform of the African Union is economic integration, the fact that the percentage share of trades amongst African nations amounts to a paltry 11.3 per cent of the continent’s total trade with the world seems to put a lie to the sincerity of African developmental vision and mission.
