Trump declares national emergency – Caribbean Business

SAN JUAN – Despite gaining access to disaster funds following his declaration of a national emergency, money for President Trump’s wall in the southern border with Mexico will not come from federal recovery funds for Puerto Rico and other states after all.

Trump was reportedly exploring the possibility of tapping into $13 billion in disaster aid Congress approved last year for Puerto Rico and a dozen states, including California and Texas, that were struck by hurricanes, flooding and other disasters.

The money funds U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) projects, and Puerto Rico’s allocation totals more than $2 billion.

CBS journalist David Begnaud reported that Mick Mulvaney, the acting White House chief of staff and Office Management and Budget…

Twitter reminds Trump of his own racism after he tries to speak for African Americans

President Donald Trump has seized on the controversy in Virginia, where Democratic Governor Ralph Northam is facing calls to resign after a blackface photo appeared under his name in his medical school yearbook. The state’s attorney general, Mark Herring, has also admitted to wearing blackface in the past.

“African Americans are very angry at the double standard on full in display in Virginia,” Trump tweeted.

Twitter has not given him the praise for this tweet he may have been looking for. Instead, many have pointed out Trump’s history of racism against African Americans.

Political journalist and commentator Roland Martin noted that Trump…

Donald Trump Gets Roasted for ‘African-Americans Are Very Angry’ Tweet

In the CVS receipt-long list of people who should never speak up for black folks, Donald Trump and Uncle Ruckus are engaged in a bloody duel for last place. But lo and behold, Melania’s Baby Daddy took to Twitter to come to our alleged rescue Sunday morning and speak on behalf of our collective outrage at all the blackface and sexual assault allegations pouring out of Virginia.

“African-Americans are very angry at the double standard on full display in Virgina!” he tweeted through a haze of hypocrisy, while resisting the undying urge to refer to us as “The Blacks”.

His tweet was in reference to Virginia Gov. Ralph Northam and Attorney General Mark Herring’s apparent penchants for blackface and the widespread calls for each them to resign. In…

Trump Claims African Americans ‘Very Angry’ About Northam Blackface, But 60% Don’t Want Gov. to Resign

Donald Trump became Spokesman-for-Black-People-in-the-Commonwealth-of-Virginia-in-Chief Sunday morning when he tweeted that “African Americans are very angry at the double standard on full display in Virginia!”, but recent polling suggests Trump is not as in touch with black people as he thinks he is.

As part of his regularly-scheduled executive time, Trump weighed in on the multiple scandals engulfing Virginia politics this past week, and gave his expert opinion on the black community’s feelings on the matter:

The tweet drew immediate scorn from Twitter users, who noted Trump’s own history of overt racism and lack of standing as…

Trump weighs in on Virginia scandals with claim blacks are ‘very angry at the double standard’

President Donald Trump on Sunday weighed in on the political scandal consuming Virginia by saying African Americans are ‘very angry at the double standard’ there.

The president did not elaborate on what he meant by a double standard.

‘African Americans are very angry at the double standard on full display in Virginia!,’ he wrote on Twitter.

The state has been consumed by bomb shell after bomb shell involving Virginia’s three top Democrats embroiled in potentially career-ending scandals: their governor who was caught in a blackface scandal, their African American lieutenant governor who was accused of sexual assault and their state attorney general also revealed to have worn black face.

NAACP 163 Trump Federal Court Nominees Include Only Four African-Americans

The United States Senate Judiciary Committee this week approved 44 trump nominees to fill vacancies in federal courts. Richmond’s Fourth Circuit nominee has been controversial.

First, some said 36-year old Allison Jones Rushing lacked judicial experience. Now NAACP President Derrick Johnson says she would diminish the court’s diversity.

“She will replace Allison Duncan, the only African American female on the Fourth Circuit.”

Carl Tobias Law Professor at the University of Richmond

“Johnson expressed concern that only four of 163 Trump nominees was African American.”

Rushing’s nomination now goes to the full Senate for a confirmation vote, which he says could be close.

As to diversity in the Fourth:

“Since 2001 there have been African Americans on the Court and there are…
