Rugby: Sunwolves eyeing another South African scalp in Super Rugby season-opener against Sharks, Sport News & Top S…


SINGAPORE – The Sunwolves finished last in the 15-team Super Rugby last year, but the highlight of their season was improving their win rate to three from two in 2017 and one in 2016.

Two of the wins last year came against two South African sides, the Bulls in their only home match in Singapore, and the Stormers.

The Japanese side will open their 2019 season against another South African team, the Sharks, at the National Stadium on Saturday (Feb 16, 6.55pm) and they are hoping to repeat their success last year.

Participating in a rugby tournament that encompasses north and south hemispheres can offer climatic challenges, but the Cheetahs coach is taking everything about the fledgling experiment of South African sides in the PRO14 in his stride.

Spider Man, Thor, Black Panther and Captain America will grace Super Rugby fields in 2019 with the competition’s four South African teams revealing their special superhero strips this week.

The Lions will be dressed in Spider Man’s familiar webbed suit, the Sharks will adopt the Black Panther look, the Stormers will be looking to hammer their opponents in the colours of Thor, while the Bulls will try to shield attacks thrown their way as Captain America.
