The NAACP has issued this statement on the Thanksgiving Day shooting in Hoover:

An African American male was shot and killed by Hoover Police at the Galleria Mall in Hoover, AL on Thanksgiving Day. Not only was an African American male shot and killed in response to an altercation and gunfire, but the wrong man was shot and killed. According to news reports, the Army soldier who was killed, was running as well as other shoppers in the mall, away from shots being fired. We have learned that many shoppers also drew their weapons in response to the shots being fired. But this one black male was the only one shot and killed by police.

Tanzanian authorities have released detained South African journalist Angela Quintal and her Kenyan counterpart Muthoki Mumo from police custody, APA learnt here on Thursday.“Angela Quintal and her Kenyan colleague are back in their hotel. They are safe and are now with the High Commissioner of South Africa, Thami Mseleku. The commissioner is meeting with them to discuss Wednesday night’s events,” Ministry of International Relations and Cooperation spokesperson Ndivhuwo Mabaya said on Thursday.

OECD releases report on economic citizenship programmes

PARIS, France — On Tuesday, the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) released a report flagging 21 nations on a list whose citizenship by investment (CBI) programmes threaten international efforts to combat tax evasion.

Three European countries – Malta, Monaco and Cyprus – are among those nations flagged as operating high-risk schemes that sell either residency or citizenship. The Caribbean nations listed are Antigua and Barbuda, Bahamas, Dominica, Grenada, Saint Lucia and St Kitts and Nevis.

Two British Overseas Territories, Montserrat and the Turks and Caicos Islands, are also on the list.

Texas A&M Releases Official Fall Enrollment Numbers – WTAW


From Texas A&M university:

As of the 20th class day, the official reporting date for the legislature and the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board, Texas A&M enrolled 69,367 students. The increase over last year’s fall enrollment comes despite a decrease of 4 percent in this year’s freshmen class (10,757), highlighting the university’s intention to manage growth.
