Riding back from the North Side on the “T” in August of 2015, Kevin Lockett missed his stop due to the crowd leaving a Kenny Chesney concert, so he got off at Wood Street. During the ride he heard racial slurs directed at him by a group of White males. He doesn’t remember much of what happened next—because they got off at Wood Street too, and one of them, Ryan Kyle, attacked him, threw him on the tracks, and then beat him unconscious.

This past August, Dulane Cameron was having fun with friends at a North Shore bar, until on their way out they ran into Joden Rocco, who earlier that night had posted a racially hateful video to social…

US to cut troop figures in Africa by 10 percent | News

The US army will withdraw hundreds of troops conducting counterterrorism operations across Africa over the next several years, the Pentagon has said, in a move that comes amid efforts to prioritise resources “for long-term competition with China and Russia”.

Currently, about 7,200 US military personnel are based in dozens of African nations, with notable footprints in countries such as Somalia, Nigeria and Libya.

Commander Candice Tresch, Pentagon spokesperson, said on Thursday that figure would be reduced by about 10 percent over the next few years.

Tresch did not specify which countries would see a drawdown but said the cuts would leave “counter-violent extremist organisation” activities largely untouched in several countries, including Somalia, Djibouti and Libya.

In other parts of the…

Donald Trump has a known penchant for twisting facts, but does he invent them, too?

Trump tweeted on Sunday morning that he had a 40 percent approval rating among African Americans. He cited a “new Fox News poll” to validate his assertion.

“New Fox Poll shows a ’40 percent Approval Rating by African Americans for President Trump, a record for Republicans.’ Thank you, a great honor,” Trump tweeted.

But an investigation by journalists found that no such Fox News poll existed to corroborate Trump’s claim, according to Talking Points Memo.

“TPM found no evidence of poll results saying that. A Fox News poll released Oct. 17 showed 29 percent approval of the President among all non-white registered voters,…
