Karegeya murder suspects named – The East African

Four suspects named in an application made at the opening of an inquest into the murder of Rwandan dissident Patrick Karegeya in South Africa, could further strain relations between the two countries.

The four — Appollo Ismael Kiririsi, Samuel Niyoyita, Nshizirungu Vianney and Alex Sugira — are Rwandan nationals.

The application on Wednesday was made by a lawyer representing the Karegeya family, Gerrie Nel, and was recorded as evidence by the magistrate at the Sandburg Court in Johannesburg.

Mr Nel told the magistrate that there had been no indication that “any” steps had been made to trace the suspects, and that there was “no contact with Interpol or any other international law enforcement agency.”

South African killed in Nairobi attacks named as Luke Potter


Charity worker Luke Potter has been named as the South African casualty from Tuesday’s Nairobi attacks. A total of 14 people have been killed in the terrorist atrocity, and the Gatsby Charitable Foundation confirmed that their long-serving employee was one of them.

Potter, who was aged 40, also held dual British citizenship. He was at the luxury DusitD2 complex in the Kenyan capital when members of Al-Shabaab opened fire on guests and employees alike.

Ugandan star named Africa’s best goalkeeper


Uganda Cranes skipper Denis Onyango was on Tuesday named Africa’s best football goalkeeper during the 2018 Caf Awards in Dakar, Senegal.

The Mamelodi Sundowns custodian took to social media to share the great news in a short post saying: ”IF U BELIEVE IT, U CAN DO IT ”.

The post was accompanied by a picture of him standing next to other award winners including Mohamed Salah (who won African Best Football player) with each holding his award.

The Awards Gala, to honour footballers and officials who distinguished themselves during the year 2018 was held on Tuesday, 8 January 2019 in Dakar, Senegal.

Onyango was shortlisted with 33 other illustrious players, most plying their trade in Europe.

Egypt, which had made headline s for securing the hosting rights for the Africa Nations Cup 2019, was smiling again as its star forward, Mohamed Salah was voted as the African Footballer of the Year for the second successive year.

Salah beat fellow nominees, Liverpool team mate Sadio Mane and Arsenal forward Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang at the Confederation of African Football’s awards ceremony in Dakar on Tuesday.

Mohamed Salah once again named African Footballer of the Year | Football


Mohamed Salah has been named African Footballer of the Year for a second successive year.

Salah beat fellow nominees, his Liverpool team-mate Sadio Mané and Arsenal’s Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, at the Confederation of African Football’s awards ceremony in Dakar on Tuesday. The Egypt forward edged the same two players last year in a vote decided by the technical directors and head coaches of 56 Caf member associations.
