Kanye West, Slavery Was Not A Conscious Choice
This is a message to Kanye West and the growing number of mentally deranged Black people who believe that slavery was always a choice. You all lack perspective and to experience the psychologically crippling trauma that our ancestors had to endure before you can talk about choice.
Recently in an interview, popular rapper Kanye West, stated his belief that slavery was a choice. This outrageous statement is only the latest in a series of questionable moves on his part. Many people who heard his comment on TMZ might say that Kanye’s statement is being taken out of context.
So, to be fair, he did indicate that the time period (400 years) was “in his opinion” what made slavery a choice. This still doesn’t let him off the hook. In fact he needs some basic education in Black American history and psychology.
I argue that slavery was not a conscious choice from the perspective that Life’s base instinct is to survive. Choice is a subjective thing. It is not always yes or no, black or white, life or death. Human choice is based on perspective and ranges from instinct to rational thought. Rational thought depends on precedence and hindsight. If none of the two is available then instinct takes over. Instinct is based on Life and Life will always choose to survive.
The first slaves knew that they were destined for hardship simply because slavery was not a new thing. Tribes warred against each other all the time and those who weren’t killed were made slaves by other tribes. This is precedence however, trans-Atlantic slaves had very little knowledge of the hardships that North America would bring.
Once in North America slaves freed themselves over time as they gained knowledge and perspective of their surroundings. Of course, there was the ultimate choice of death but the instinct of life is to live to fight another day. It exists outside of choice just like any other mechanism of Life.
This instinct is called the “Fight or Flight” response and if it didn’t exist many of us wouldn’t be using the benefit of hindsight to say such things as; “I would have escaped or I would have chosen to die” because you wouldn’t exist.
Instinct is being used to prolong the duration of physical and mental slavery in North America, the West Indies, and South America. This condition is maintained by several tactics which include; lack of knowledge, fear of consequence, religious indoctrination, and dis-unity.
It is well documented that during slavery, Black people were forbidden from reading, writing, and education. Slave masters knew that knowledge in any form develops the mind. Therefore, any form of learning was as dangerous as being alone with a slave with a knife in his hand. For that reason, they kept their slaves uneducated and dumb.
The stability of the plantation was at risk of falling into dysfunction if slaves begun to develop rational thought. Slaves were also kept from knowing anything about life outside the plantation, which maintained a psychological condition of uncertainty as to how unsecure they actually were.
Fear of consequence is one of the most crippling psychological conditions. It was a tactic used all throughout slavery and is still being used against us in present day in the way cops publicly execute Black people on a daily basis. Fear of consequence is the process of inducing fear into people by showing them examples of what will happen if they act out of line or disobey the rules.
Slave masters used numerous measures of cruelty to control their slaves. Slaves were gathered to watch as runaways and disobedient slaves were either wipped senseless, lynched, castrated, or dismembered. Pregnant women had their stomachs cut open and their unborn babies were crushed.
Family members and even children were sold away to other slave owners and women were raped and impregnated on a regular basis. Where in today’s society does such brutality exist to test our so called “choice”? Hindsight has black people f’ed up because not even the Jews are dumb enough to say they knew that not fighting back would result in them being gassed.
Religion was used as a tool to pacify slaves. It was a form of education that slave masters had no fear of sharing because it teaches that a master and slave relationship is an acceptable thing in the eyes of God. Slaves were encouraged to accept their suffering, as it was the will of God as punishment for non-belief.
The quest of a slave therefore, was to develop deep faith in God as God would forgive and reward their suffering once they die and go to heaven. Credit religion for helping Black people to endure 400 years of trauma but it’s time to dismiss this tool of slavery.
Black religious people today are still mentally enslaved because they still cannot see that religion is merely a tool to understand human nature. Choice will exist when a more powerful comforter is provided for Black people to depend on. Dohgon Spirituality aims to be that alternative.
Kanye West, understand that there were numerous slave revolts throughout the time of slavery. Nat Turner and Harriet Tubman are just a couple of examples. In the Caribbean and South America there was the Garifuna, the Maroons, and many others, some of whom never made it to the slave auction docks. Instead, they killed the sailors and took control of the slave ships.
Toussaint Louverture in Haiti defeated the French to gain freedom almost 100 years before American slaves gained their freedom. Come on man! Wise up and stop the self-righteous foolishness that conservative ideology is twisting your mind toward.
I see you and many others like yourself who they have recruited to whitewash history by telling us that we have choice while they continue to heard us by Instinct and Desire. Black Consciousness won’t let it happen because there are other ways to achieve prosperity without selling one’s Soul.
Dilemma of a Black Conservative
“I feel like a Black Republican, money keeps comin in. But I can’t turn my back on the hood, I got love for them.” – Jay-Z
The dilemma of Black conservatism is a serious one. Depending on our level of consciousness some of us may choose to live like Kanye West and some of us like Jay-Z. Conservatism is a vile term among many Black people simply because it is often associated with white supremacy and economic oppression. The fact is, many Black people think and act conservative, we just don’t practice it politically due to our racial bonds. Kanye West and Jay-Z are two Black conservatives with politically different views. One openly praises political conservatism and one fights against it.
Conservatism in America is often associated with white supremacists and racists. Take a pick from any of the known white supremacist organizations in the country and you will find they identify themselves as Christian conservatives. Religious conservatism is the belief that one’s religion is the chosen of God therefore your actions are guided and accepted by your God. That goes for all religions, as is evident with the rise of Islamic extremism throughout the world.
White supremacists believe that Christianity is the guide for all aspects of life, be it political, financial, social, or environmental, therefore they go about destroying the environment because “God put resources on Earth for them to use”. They actively seek to convert Black people to their religious ideology; not to improve the lives of Black people but to individually covet favor from their God in hopes that they will join him in Heaven.
The problem is that once a Black person is converted to religious conservatism his status does not change. He may feel that he has gained the world but he is still considered a servant to the white race. Any injustice that is inflicted on a Black person by a white person in this condition is seen as the norm of a master and slave relationship. The only alternative for religious Blacks (who have a conscience) is to get political, as in the case of Martin Luther King.
Any culture that is built on the exploitation of Black people under the excuse of religious superiority will ultimately become unjust and oppressive. Oppression is the exercise of authority or power in a burdensome, cruel, or unjust manner. Many white people will argue that they “don’t have a racist bone in their body” but they do nothing to fix the systems of oppression. They will see Black people getting gunned down by the police on a daily basis and they will do nothing.
They will see Black people being denied service at businesses and they will do nothing. They will see Black people being railroaded into prisons by the corrupt court system and they will do nothing. Their psychological condition is the result of a moral superiority complex created by religion. For that reason, Black people are scared to associate themselves with what most white people associate themselves with, which is political conservatism.
Contrary to popular belief, Black people are not an unethical race. We are hardworking, fun loving people who believe in getting good education and maintaining strong family ties. We have high ambitions of becoming Doctors, Lawyers, Engineers, and Business owners. All these things require supreme self-discipline, hard work, and financial sacrifice to achieve. Those of us who make it to the top of society fall into two categories.
The first one (Kanye West) attributes his achievements to his own hard work and sacrifices so he abandons his past. He begins to think like the white man politically, fiscally, and religiously. He dumps his Black girl and picks up a white girl that everyone in sports and Hollywood has slept with simply because of his own deranged ego. Then he starts to praise the most race baiting president in history as his hero.
The second one (Jay Z) acknowledges that although he worked hard to achieve success he must pay homage to those who helped to break down many of the barriers that white supremacists put in our paths to limit our success. He maintains a fiscal and religious conservative view but he refuses to break his racial bonds, therefore he shuns the national political conservative system that enforces the oppression of Black people.
Jay-Z works behind the scenes to improve the lives of Black Americans because he knows that no matter how rich and successful he gets, he’s “Still Nigga”.
The Trump Effect On Black Consciousness
Understanding the Trump effect on Black Consciousness.
So America has elected Donald Trump for president, a man who offends Black people while fueling the flames of racism to reach a temperature that America hasn’t experienced in decades. What surprises most people but not us is that many Black people actually voted for him. Some of us are calling them dumb but Black Trump supporters are using their brain. They’re just not using it for racial unity. Instead, they are trying to defend their religions, their bank accounts, and to defend their lack of cultural identity.
Among Black conservatives you have the evangelicals, the business professionals, and the racially disconnected. The Black evangelicals want to fit in with the larger group of evangelicals so they support the ideology that a god is coming soon so Black people just need to endure our suffering just a little while longer. The business professionals want to protect their financial interests from socialist ideologies such as high taxes, high wages and universal healthcare. And the racially disconnected are trying their best to disassociate themselves from the “Black community” because of its stereotypes.
All three groups are trying to use their conscience by buying into the false narrative of conservatism, which is primarily built on Ideology, not Truth. What Black conservatives are actually doing is comforting their uneasy presence among people who do not like them (cooning). Why aren’t they using their status for the cause of Black unity? The reason is because Black cultures around the world and especially in America have been systematically destroyed and replaced by systems designed to limit our potential while training us to keep the wheels of religion and business rolling.
This condition is evident by the fact that most Black people refuse to understand what their conscience really is. Conscience comes from the Spirit of the universe and is the thing that makes us hate seeing Black people acting like fools, killing one another, drug dependent, and complacent. Conscience is what makes Black people hate the condition we find ourselves in and want to change it. Conscience regulates the Desires generated by our Free Will to form Morals. Religion is the placement of a group of morals into the hands of a regulator known as a God.
True Black Consciousness is our Conscience directing us toward a love of Race, culture, and AfRAkan origins. Once we learn to understand ourselves we will no longer need religions to fortify our morals because we will function using Fairness, Equity, and Accountability. This is true conservatism therefore, at such a time, it will be impossible for Black consciousness to become co-opted by someone like Trump.
