Remnants of tropical storm Isaac bring heavy rains and gusty winds to northwest Caribbean

By Caribbean News Now contributor

MIAMI, USA — Disorganized showers and thunderstorms extending from just west of Jamaica to eastern Cuba and Hispaniola associated with the remnants of Tropical Storm Isaac are expected to bring heavy rains and gusty winds to the area during the next couple of days.

According to the National Hurricane Center (NHC) in Miami, environmental conditions are expected to remain unfavorable for re-development while the system moves westward to west-northwestward across the northwestern Caribbean Sea.

The chance of a tropical cyclone reforming during the next five days is estimated to be low (10 percent).

Remnants of Isaac have low chance of redeveloping in Caribbean, hurricane forecasters say

The remnants of Isaac have a low chance of redeveloping in Caribbean, hurricane forecasters said Monday morning (Sept. 17).

Showers are limited, forecasters said, and any development should be slow to occur in the next day or so. The system has a 10 percent chance of developing into at least a tropical depression with 48 hours.

By Wednesday, environmental conditions are expected to become less conducive for development as the system moves toward the Yucatan Peninsula.

The National Hurricane Center announced the determination Saturday in its 5 a.m. advisory, the last one it will issue on the storm.

The eye of the storm — which briefly weakened into a tropical depression then restrengthened into a tropical storm Friday — was about 260 miles south-southwest of Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, and 455 miles east-southeast of Kingston, Jamaica, as of the 5 a.m. EDT update.

Isaac was moving west at 16 mph with maximum sustained winds of 35 mph.

There were no warnings or watches associated with Isaac, which had been a hurricane for a few days this week.
