Suspended cop gunned down at mini-mart; female relative hospitalised


Police are investigating the murder of suspended Senior Superintendent Edward Castillo.

A statement from the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS) said the 60-year-old retired police officer was conducting business at his mini-mart located at Waterloo Road around 4:30 pm on Saturday, when two men posing as customers entered.

The men ordered a drink and when the victim turned around to retrieve it, one of the men took out a gun and fired several shots at him.

The gunman also shot a female relative who was in the mini-mart at the time of the incident. The men then escaped in a white motor vehicle.

The victim died at the scene, while the female victim was taken to hospital for treatment.

Rachael Sukhdeo’s brother gunned down near family home


It’s been less than 40 days since Rachael Sukhdeo lost her husband to gun violence and today, her younger brother was gunned down outside her mother’s home.

Phillip Bassant was shot and killed in Charlieville this afternoon.

Sources say they are still gathering information into the circumstances surrounding the killing. 

On March 26, used car dealer Sheron Sukhdeo was shot near the same location following a family outing.

Man gunned down in Mamoral


A Mamoral man was gunned down near his home around 5:15 pm on Thursday evening.

The victim has been identified as Deron Gowan.

According to reports, Gowan was shot in the chest while at Tisha’s Parlour near the Mamoral RC School where he lived opposite.

Residents heard the explosion and found the victim on a pile of garbage.

Police are investigating the possibility that Gowan may have been shot by a relative following an argument.

Man gunned down in Champs Fleur


Police are investigating the murder of a man who was gunned down at William Street, Champs Fleurs on Thursday.

The victim has been identified as David Roberts also known as ‘Pancho’ of Spring Valley, Mt D’or Road, Champs Fleurs.

He was found slumped in a cream coloured B13 around 3 pm.

Update: Security guard gunned down near TGI Fridays in POS


Up to 11pm on Wednesday night, police were on the scene of a homicide in Port of Spain, where a security guard was shot dead near TGI Fridays. 

Initial reports identified the victim as 41-year-old Paul Rajcoomar from Belmont.

He is said to be a father of four.

According to initial reports, Rajcoomar, who is attached to Shield Security Services Limited, was fatally shot at about 8 pm tonight near Albion Plaza along Victoria Avenue, Woodbrook.

He was said to have been in the area when he was approached by unknown assailants.

The 41-year-old was shot multiple times about his body.

The assailants then fled the scene.

The police and emergency health services were notified and the wounded man was rushed to the Port of Spain General Hospital.

He was pronounced dead on arrival.

African American Man Gunned Down With 2 Dozen Bullets By Police


The lawyer will file a complaint this week for “excessive policing” on behalf of Diante Yarber’s family

Los Angeles:  Police gunned down an African American father of three using two dozen bullets in the parking lot of a Walmart supermarket in California, authorities and his lawyer said Tuesday.

Diante Yarber, 26, was unarmed and parking his car in Barstow, about two hours east of Los Angeles, at the time of the incident on April 4, according to his lawyer Lee Merritt.

Among the car’s four passengers was 26-year-old Mariana Tafoya, who is recovering in hospital from bullet wounds, Merritt told AFP.

He said police officers shot a total of 30 bullets, two dozen of which hit Yarber.
