Jamaica finish 6th as Barbados wins Caribbean Junior Squash tourney


Jamaica finished sixth as Barbados triumphed in an epic showdown with former regional giants Guyana to emerge as overall champions for the 2nd consecutive year, as the JN General Insurance Caribbean Area Squash Association’s (CASA) Junior Championships came to an end on Saturday at the Liguanea Club in New Kingston.

Having upset perennial winners Guyana last year, Barbados came to the competition to prove that 2017 was not a fluke.  With three age group champions in the lineup, the girls’ team was dominant delivering a convincing 4-1 beating to Guyana.

Nyirarukundo eyes first podium finish at African Championships | The New Times

African Athletics Championships

Rwanda’s leading track and field female runner Salome Nyirarukundo has intensified training ahead of the forthcoming 21st edition of African Athletics Senior Championships in Nigeria.

This year’s continental championships are scheduled for August 1-5 at the Asaba Township Stadium in the Delta State, Nigeria.

The reigning Kigali International Peace Half Marathon champion is the only Rwandan athlete to have attained the entry standard time for the biennial continental showpiece where she will be competing in the women’s 10,000 metres.

Commonwealth Games end: Africa bags 97 medals, hosts Australia finish with 198 medals


The 2018 Commonwealth Games came to and with dramatic victories in Netball and Rugby against this year’s hosts, Australia.

New Zealands’s women’s Rugby team beat Australia in the final with a try in sudden death extra time, winning 17 – 12, while England’s netball team also shocked title favorites Australia with a decisive penalty shot in the last seconds of the game winning 52 – 51. They became the first team apart from Australia and New Zealand to win netball gold.

Australia still managed to lead the medal’s table with 80 gold medals, and a total of 198 medals.
