A Texas couple was found guilty of enslaving an African woman for 16 years, WFAA reported.

After deliberating for more than eight hours, jurors returned a guilty verdict against Mohamed Toure and his wife, Denise Cros-Toure, on charges of forced labor, the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reported. 

U.S District Judge Reed O’Connor read the verdicts Thursday evening. The couple face up to 20 years in prison, the newspaper reported.

Toure’s father, Ahmed Sékou Touré, was the first president of Guinea, WFAA reported. The elder Touré served as the country’s president from 1958 until his death in 1984.

Texas couple found guilty of forcing African girl to labor for years without pay

A Texas couple accused of enslaving an African girl for nearly 16 years has been found guilty of forced labor by a federal jury in Tarrant County Thursday evening, the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reported.

Mohamed Toure, 57, and his wife Denise Cros-Toure, 57, were also found guilty of conspiracy to harbor an alien. The couple was found not guilty on two other related charges.

They face a maximum of 20 years in prison for the charge of forced labor. The jury also decided that property owned by the couple will be forfeited because it was used to facilitate the crime, according to the newspaper.

16 Years a Slave: African woman tells federal jury of forced, unpaid labor for wealthy Dallas couple

A young African woman is finally getting to tell her story after a wealthy Dallas couple was arrested on suspicion of keeping her as a slave for 16 years.

According to the Star-Telegram, Tuesday, on the third day of the trial for Mohamed Toure and his wife, Denise Cros-Toure, the woman – identified only as Jenna -explained to a jury of eight women and four men that she was called a “dog,” “slave,” “worthless” and an “idiot.”

Jenna was a child when she arrived to the U.S. and was only able to flee the Toure home in 2016 with the help of a former neighbor.
