African champions Esperance of Tunisia were left stunned by home side Al Ain FC on Saturday, losing 3-0 in the last eight of the 2018 Fifa Club World Cup in the United Arab Emirates.

Al Ain, who narrowly got through the last round to qualify for a place against Esperance, will now face recent Copa Libertadores champions River Plate in the semi-finals.

The hosts fought from three goals down to draw 3-3 with Team Wellington before winning on penalties to book their quarter-final spot.

But they avoided making the same mistake against the African champions on Saturday, as Mohamed Ahmed opened the scoring just two minutes into the match.

Raja Casablanca beat AS Vita Club to win 2018 African Confederation Cup

Raja Casablanca brought a 3-0 first leg win with them to Kinshasa for Sunday’s finale

Morocco’s Raja Casablanca won the 2018 African Confederation Cup on Sunday, surviving a late fight-back from DR Congo’s AS Vita Club in the second leg of the final in Kinshasa to win 4-3 on aggregate.

Raja brought a 3-0 first leg advantage with them and despite a 3-1 defeat in the second leg in front of Vita Club’s home fans, the Moroccans held on for the overall victory.

Raja’s coach Juan Carlos Garrido became the first man to win the African Confederation Cup with two clubs.

The Spaniard also coached Al Ahly to a dramatic victory over Ivory Coast’s Sewe San Pedro in the 2014 final of Africa’s second tier club competition.

Banyana Banyana vice-captain Refiloe Jane thanked coach Desiree Ellis for “allowing” her to leave the team just two days before the Africa Women’s Cup of Nations final against Nigeria on Saturday.

Jane, who has been one of the star performers in Ghana, made the shock announcement on Thursday that she will be rejoining her Australian club Canberra United and miss the Awcon decider.
