African Champions League: Club Africain awarded 3-0 win over Ismaily

Tunisia’s Club Africain have been awarded a 3-0 win over Egypt’s Ismaily for January’s abandoned African Champions League Group C match.

Africain were leading 2-1 when the referees had to call off the game as missiles were thrown onto the pitch.

Ismaily were originally were disqualified from the tournament for the incidents but later reinstated by the Confederation African of Football.

The Egyptians were also fined a total of US$40,000.

The game was interrupted in the 46th, 72nd and 86th minutes before the referee decided to stop the game after a fifteen minute break, during which time several attempts were made to restart the match.

Boys and Girls Club holds art contest to honor influential African-Americans


ROCKFORD (WREX)- To celebrate Black History Month, members of the Rockford Boys and Girls Club are recognizing some of the most influential African-Americans through art.

The club teamed up with local U.S. Cellular workers to hold an art contest. Contestants created piece of art work that recognize prominent African-Americans. Ten finalists were chosen. Now, the community can vote at U.S. Cellular stores for their favorite pieces of art throughout February.

“I think if Dr. Martin Luther King was alive, he’d be proud of us,” said Lekyra Pittman, a student participating in the art contest. “Everybody, drawing this, winning prizes and remembering him.”

The top three pieces with the most votes will be announced in March.

Club offers support for African American men – The Connection


Starting as a professional development conference amongst junior college board members and administrators, the African-American Male Educational Development club developed a brotherhood and has become a sanctuary for African American males.

A2MEND was co-founded by College President Ed Bush and other junior college officers from different campuses.

Jamaican takeaway Jamrock Grill offering a taste of the Caribbean opens at Horley Cricket Club


A taste of the Caribbean has come to Horley with the opening of a new takeaway restaurant.

Jamrock Grill opened on premises at Horley Cricket Club on February 1 and is offering its customers an authentic taste of the West Indies.

The business was previously run from Langley Green but was forced to close in November after outgrowing the premises.

Now head chef and owner Soumia Baker, 21, and her fiancé, barber Jack De Hoedt, 27 both of Mulberry Road, Langley Green have brought their restaurant to Horley by popular demand.

African Champions League: TP Mazembe beat Club Africain 8-0 to set new record

TP Mazembe of the Democratic Republic of Congo crushed Tunisia’s Club Africain 8-0 on Saturday to achieve a record winning margin for an African Champions League group match.

The five-time African champions overtook the mark set 18 years ago by Ivory Coast’s ASEC Mimosas when they beat CR Belouizdad of Algeria 7-0.

Moroccan club Difaa el Jadida hold the record for a single-match winning margin at any stage of the Champions League after a 10-0 win over Benfica of Guinea-Bissau last season.

Mazembe ran riot in Lubumbashi just 14 days after suffering a three-goal defeat away to surprise Group C pacesetters CS Constantine of Algeria.
