Guyana Chief Justice could rule by month end on validity no confidence motion

Chief Justice Roxane George-Wiltshire Tuesday said she intends to give a ruling by the end of this month regarding the three matters challenging the validity of last month’s motion of no confidence that led to the downfall of the David Granger coalition government.

She told lawyers representing the various parties during the case management hearing that they should submit their legal arguments within the specific deadlines.

“A decision will be ready before the end of this month ” she said, noting also that she is unlikely to grant a conservatory order for the President and Cabinet to remain in office due to the time frames.

One of the notable and memorable moments of the week-long festivities was when actor, Michael Jai White, was enstooled as chief in the Akwamu Traditional Area in Ghana.

Bestowed the name Nana Akoto III, Odopon, which means “The tree with strong roots that does not fear the storm”, the actor could not help but share his excitement after he was installed as chief by Odeneho Kwafo Akoto III, the Akwamuhene (Akwamu king).

First African-American Chief Deputy appointed in Montgomery County

DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) – It’s a day that will go down in the history books. The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office has sworn in its first African-American Chief Deputy. 

In an interview inside Daryl Wilson’s new office Wednesday, he says: “I’m up to the challenge.”

He was officially sworn in on Tuesday.

“To say that you’re the first of anything carries a whole lot of weight,” Wilson said. “But the good thing about being the first of anything is that you pave the path for the next person so it means a lot.”

It’s a a big accomplishment for Daryl Wilson, a Dunbar High School and Northwestern University graduate, who first joined the Sheriff’s Office back in 1991.

He worked his way through the ranks from road patrol to narcotics to overseeing the county jail, just to name a few.

Gabon rebel chief caught, two killed in failed coup

The chief military rebel who led a thwarted coup in Gabon on Monday has been arrested and two of his commandos killed after they stormed into a public radio station, the presidency said.

“The situation is under control,” the presidency statement said, adding that hostages had been freed from the radio station.

A group of soldiers had attempted to take power and called in a radio appeal for a popular uprising against ailing President Ali Bongo who is abroad recovering from the stroke.
