Former Dallas police officer charged with murder in shooting death of St Lucia man

DALLAS, USA — The former Dallas police officer who fatally shot a Saint Lucian man, Botham Jean, in his own apartment in September, was indicted on a murder charge on Friday.

Amber Guyger, 30, was booked on Friday and quickly released on a $200,000 bond.

A Dallas County grand jury handed down the indictment against Guyger after weighing the evidence against her last week.

Guyger had initially been arrested on a manslaughter charge, three days after the September 6, 2018, shooting.

A former Dallas police officer was indicted on a murder charge on Friday for shooting an unarmed, 26-year-old African-American accountant who was watching TV in his apartment, a home that the officer says she mistook as her own.

A Dallas County grand jury charged Amber R. Guyger, 30, over the Sept. 6 killing of Botham Jean in his apartment, which was one floor above hers. If convicted, Ms. Guyger could receive five years to life in prison.

Ms. Guyger, a white officer who was returning from her shift but dressed in uniform at the time, said that she mistook Mr. Jean’s apartment for her own, that his door was slightly ajar and that it opened when she tried to unlock it. She thought he was a burglar, she said.

Former police officer charged with the murder of St. Lucian national

A 30-year-old former Dallas police officer, who shot and killed an unarmed St. Lucian national in his own apartment in September, was on Friday indicted on a murder charge.

Amber Guyger, shot and killed 26-year-old Botham Jean, after claiming that she got off the wrong floor and went to Jean’s apartment by mistake.

She was arrested on September 9, three days after the incident and according to the arrest warrant, Guyger said it was dark, she saw a figure she did not recognize and believed “she had encountered a burglar.”

The former police officer also said that the person did not follow her commands.

Jean died at the hospital and his mother, Allison Jean, a former senior public servant in St. Lucia, said her son had moved to Dallas to work at Pricewaterhouse…

White US grocery store shooting suspect charged with hate crimes | USA News

Prosecutors have charged a white man with federal hate crimes in the killings of two African Americans at a grocery store last month in Kentucky.

A federal grand jury in Louisville returned three hate crime charges against 51-year-old Gregory Bush on Thursday afternoon.

US Attorney Russell Coleman said Bush is charged with killing two people – 69-year-old Maurice Stallard and 67-year-old Vicki Lee Jones – and attempting to kill a third person based on their race. Bush was also indicted on three firearms charges.

Police said Bush walked into a Kroger grocery store with a .40-caliber handgun on October 24 and shot one person. He then killed another in the car park before exchanging fire with an armed man and then fled.
