BASSETERRE, St Kitts — Some 35 soldiers and police officers from the Regional Security System (RSS) were sworn in on Thursday as Special Constables of the Royal St Christopher and Nevis Police Force amidst concern by leader of the opposition, Dr Denzil Douglas, that Prime Minister Dr Timothy Harris is abusing his position and authority and is seeking to use the RSS to buttress the local forces, which he has deliberately emasculated to assist him in his political campaign.

“This is particularly concerning especially at a time when he is actively contemplating calling general elections,” Douglas said in a letter on Wednesday to OECS chairman, Dr Ralph Gonsalves, the prime minister of St Vincent and the Grenadines.
