Recognizing African-American soldiers of UC | Local News

LEWISBURG — The Union County Historical Society’s has held a presentation recognizing Black History Month for the past 14 years. This year’s lecture was given by Nancy Neuman, who presented “African American Civil War Veterans Buried in the Lewisburg Cemetery”. The event was held Saturday at the Public Library for Union County.

Newman is the not only the presenter, but president of the Lewisburg Cemetery Association and well versed in local history. She presented on historical events which led to the Civil War allowing African-Americans to enter the war as soldiers, including several local men buried in the Lewisburg Cemetery.
