Peoria now fifth, not second, on ‘worst cities’ list for African-Americans – News – Journal Star

PEORIA — The Peoria metropolitan area again was listed as one of the “worst cities for black Americans,” though it fell to fifth on the list from second last year.

The annual listings by online aggregator were released at the end of last week.

Peoria has played a prominent role on the list since its inception in 2015, when the city was listed at sixth. The following year it jumped to first. In 2017, Peoria was ranked second.

This year it is still the highest-listed Illinois area on the list. The Chicago-Naperville-Elgin metro area is listed 15th, Danville is 13th, Springfield is 11th, Kankakee is ninth, and Decatur is seventh.
