Mystery as Birmingham flight to Caribbean makes U-turn


A plane jetting off from the Midlands has made a midair u-turn this afternoon.

The TUI flight from Birmingham Airport to Punta Cana in the Dominican Republic jetted off at 12.35pm, and was set to arrive in the Caribbean nine hours later.

However, the Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner barely passed over the north-western tip of Ireland before turning around, heading back for Birmingham.

The reason for the diversion is not yet known, but the plane has wasted no time in making its return, and is currently on final approach to Birmingham Airport.
