Minority business accelerator program starts in Spartanburg


SPARTANBURG, SC (WSPA) – A new program is looking to boost business in Spartanburg.

“I started business from scratch,” said Gerod Allison, who owns a local Allstate Insurance Agency. 

More than 2 decades later, he is a committee member for “Emerge,” Spartanburg’s new business accelerator program.  

“In the city of Spartanburg African Americans are the majority in the city but when you start looking at business ownership, we’re a minority,” said Natasha Pitts, Spartanburg’s Minority Business Development Coordinator. 

She said 20-percent of the Spartanburg’s business owners are African American.
