Miner Vedanta appoints South African Naidoo to lead African operations

Indian miner Vedanta Resources has appointed South African-born Deshnee Naidoo to lead its African operations.

Ms Naidoo will oversee the company’s copper and zinc mines in Zambia, South Africa, Namibia and Tasmania.

The appointment is the latest leadership change at the London-listed metals group controlled by Indian tycoon Anil Agarwal. Last month Vedanta appointed Srinivasan Venkatakrishnan, the head of AngloGold Ashanti, as chief executive.

Ms Naidoo has 20 years experience in the mining industry, and was previously chief financial officer of Anglo American’s thermal coal business in South Africa.
