Malaysian police file criminal charges against fugitive St Kitts-Nevis economic citizen

BASSETERRE, St Kitts — On Friday, Malaysian police filed criminal charges against fugitive financier Low Taek Jho, who is wanted in connection with a multibillion-dollar money laundering scandal at the Malaysian sovereign wealth fund, 1MDB. Low, popularly known as Jho Low, is understood to be an economic citizen of St Kitts and Nevis.

He was charged with eight counts of money laundering at a court in the administrative capital Putrajaya. His father, Low Hock Peng, was also charged with one count under the same money laundering act.

“Warrants of arrest for both of them were issued by the court,” said Amar Singh, the director of police commercial crime investigations.
