Local African-American festival celebrates second day | Tennessee State Headlines

Area residents celebrated the second day of the annual Blount County African-American Festival with a service at Bethel Baptist Church that included plenty of singing, some enthusiastic and crowd-pleasing “praise dancing,” and a number of diverse readings and remembrances from various community members.

The festival is celebrated locally every year in late February, as a sort of adjunct to the nationally recognized Black History Month. Sunday’s mistress of ceremonies LaGhana Walker opened the service by describing the theme of this edition of Blount County African-American Festival as “remembering the past and inspiring the future.”
