LeBron James has informed the Cleveland Cavaliers of his decision to opt out of the final year of his contact, making him an unrestricted free agent starting July 1. The 4x NBA MVP can still return to the Cavs on a five-year $207.4 million deal or go elsewhere, such as Los Angeles.

According to ESPN’s Brian Windhorst, LeBron intends to make his announcement before the 4th of July holiday. Appearing on The Lowe Post podcast last week (H/T Bleacher Report), Windhorst said, “Everybody will be on holiday on July 4. It will be over by then.”
