Juneteenth Citywide Celebration continues into September during second phase

LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT) – Local Juneteenth celebrations don’t stop in the summer. The second part of La Crosse’s fourth Annual Juneteenth Citywide Celebration honored a historic anniversary Saturday at Poage Park and the South Side Neighborhood Center.

Juneteenth is a holiday that observes the day slavery officially ended in the United States, June 19th 1865. It’s a day in history that came almost three years after Abraham Lincoln gave his Emancipation Proclamation.

The event celebrated the 156th anniversary of the Emancipation Proclamation, which marked the beginning of the end of slavery in the United States.
