IUCN SSC African Elephant Specialist Group announce new Co-Chairs


Dr Okita-Ouma and Dr Slotow succeed Dr Holly Dublin who dedicated 25 successful years to the leadership role of AfESG.  

The key objective of the AfESG is “to promote the long-term conservation of Africa’s elephants throughout their range”.

Since its establishment, the AfESG has provided technical expertise on a national, regional and global level relating to the conservation and trade of African Elephants. For example, the Specialist Group convened the African Elephant Summit (2013), which brought together delegates from 30 countries to discuss the urgent measures required to stem the growing illegal ivory trade and its impacts on elephant populations in Africa.
