PROVIDENCE, R.I. — Threats of thunderstorms did not stop 30 community members and preservationists from gathering Tuesday night to remember the contributions of African-Americans and Cape Verdeans on College Hill.

“There’s a lot to learn, a lot of community history out there,” said Pierre Morenon, a member of the board of the Rhode Island Historical Preservation and Heritage Commission, the organization which co-hosted the event with the Rhode Island Black Heritage Society. “We need to focus on the stories of the community.”
