Hurricane Beryl: First hurricane season 2018 storm emerges threatening Caribbean islands | Weather | News


Last year’s hurricane season left a path of devastation across the Caribbean Islands and the US overseas territory of Puerto Rico, where locals are still recovering nearly one year on.

Hurricane Beryl has become the first storm to hit category 1 on the hurricane scale and latest path tracks suggest it will hit Barbados, Dominica and San Juan over the coming days.

Weather Channel meteorologist Domenica Davis said: “Hurricane Beryl is on the way to hurricane category 1, winds of 75mph. This is the first hurricane of the 2018 Atlantic season and it is moving off to the West at 14mph.

“A lot of wind shears as it gets closer to the Lesser Antilles so here’s a look at his projected path. It will start to weaken Sunday, Monday there it is closer to the Lesser Antilles.”
