“Ubuntu” is an African concept that means “I am because you are.”

This sentiment illustrates the importance of dependency and interconnectedness in a community.

Rebecca Bayeck said “ubuntu” was the driving force behind the curation of the Blockson exhibition currently on display on the first floor of the Pattee Library.

Bayeck (graduate-comparative and international education) hopes the exhibition highlights the importance of African-American contributions in the world and makes students aware of the Charles L. Blockson Collection located on the third floor of Pattee.
