Heritage center putting on play about African-American educators


CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (CBS19 NEWS) — A local group will be putting on a play to honor local African-American teachers, educators and community leaders.

The Burke Brown Steppe Chapter of the Afro-American Historical and Genealogical Society Incorporated will present the play “Old School” at the Jefferson School African American Heritage Center beginning on Oct. 18.

The play was written by local playwright Caruso Brown.

The stage is set in a high school classroom, and through some twists and turns, focuses on the tenacity of African-American educators and a message that is still important for modern students.
