Genealogical Society observes Black History Month – Lifestyle – The Daily Herald

The Genealogical Society Maury County Tennessee recently observed Black History Month at the February meeting of the society.

African-American Heritage Society President Jo Ann McClellan presented the program titled “United States Colored Troops: The First to Fight for Our Civil Rights.”

In her presentation, McClellan discussed the history of African-American soldiers who served the Union Army in a number of Civil War engagements, and also the history of those who served the Confederate cause. Her very interesting presentation was well received with a lengthy question and answer session following.

The GSMCT monthly meetings are held on the second Thursday of each month, except in July, at 6 p.m. at the Senior Center. Guests are welcome….
