France only reached World Cup semi by recruiting ‘African giants’, claims senior Iranian politician

France’s football team is not truly French and only reached the World Cup semi final by recruiting “giants from Africa”, the deputy president of Iran’s Parliament has claimed.

France’s squad includes two players born outside of the country – Cameroon-born defender Samuel Umtiti who moved to France with his family aged 2, and goalkeeper Steve Mandanda who has also lived in France with his family since he was 2.
