Former Barbados PM Calls For Stronger Caribbean Ties

Former Prime Minister of Barbados, Owen Arthur, is championing a call to establish stronger trade relations in the Caribbean region.

Mr. Arthur is the feature speaker at the Macroeconomic Conversation Series which is currently taking place at the University of the West Indies St. Augustine Campus.

Delivering his address on Wednesday morning, he said there must be a change to business culture in the region to propel Caribbean economies towards international benchmarks.

Describing the present state of affairs as a “grim reality,” he added that this has depreciated the regional developmental assets.

He also said it is difficult to build an export culture where tariffs are higher than other places in the rest of the world.
