For the first time, Ohio University’s homecoming king and queen are both African-American


This year as Ohio University announced its homecoming winners, history was made. Both winners were African-American, a change from previous years.

Keith Key and Jasmyn Pearl were announced homecoming king and queen during this year’s homecoming festivities. Their win carries a great amount of significance in OU history because of whom they represent.

In the past, the homecoming court has been racially diverse; however, this is the first year that the king and queen were both African-American.

Pearl, a senior studying family and consumer sciences, is still figuring out what the victory means to her. She said when she arrived at OU, she had a list of things she looked forward to accomplishing, and being crowned homecoming…
