With its extraordinary history and venerable art collection, Fisk University is one of Nashville’s greatest treasures.  Since the 1870s — long before Cheekwood, Frist Center for the Visual Arts or the notion of a gallery scene — the private, predominantly African-American institution has steadily accumulated a permanent collection of more than 4,000 objects that spans three centuries and rivals collections found in major museums.
