First African-American woman to represent Dane County elected


MADISON, Wis. (WMTV) — Shelia Stubbs was elected to the Dane County Board of Supervisors in 2006 and has served on the board ever since.

On Tuesday night, she was elected to Wisconsin’s 77th Assembly District, which includes the south and west sides of Madison.

Stubbs will be the first African-American woman ever to represent Dane County in the state legislature.

“I am so honored and grateful and thankful,” Stubbs said. “I know there are so many youth that are looking up to me, African-American children. This tells me that the state of Wisconsin is ready for change.”
