Feature: Aretha Franklin – R.E.S.P.E.C.T. – A farewell fit for a queen

DETROIT, USA — They came in droves. Every creed, colour and every walk of life to bid farewell to the ‘Queen of Soul’ Aretha Franklin, in repose at the Charles H. Wright Museum in Detroit.

Franklin died of pancreatic neuroendocrine tumor August 16, 2018, and fans lined up in the Detroit summer heat for the public viewing.

Her casket was a solid bronze Promethean casket, plated in 24-karat gold, similar to those of singers like James Brown and Michal Jackson. The interior was furnished in pastel white velvet embroidered in gold metallic thread with “Aretha Franklin, Queen of Soul.”

Emotions ran high as mourners blew kisses and murmured “rest in peace”, while the halls of the museum echoed…
