Royal Baptist raises $23K for museum

The congregation of Royal Missionary Baptist Church has raised $23,000 in support of the International African American Museum, according to its pastor, the Rev. Isaac Holt.

The donation was delivered last week. Adults in the congregation raised about $18,000 and children raised $5,000, Holt said. The fundraising effort was undertaken to show community support for the museum and to encourage other churches to do the same, Holt said.

The International African American Museum continues to accept donations that will help cover the costs of the $75 million project. Museum staff hope to break ground this year.
