Event on African Asylum Seekers in Israel Gets Heated


Thursday night’s joint NYU Jewish Voice for Peace and Students for Justice in Palestine discussion on the deportation of African migrants from Israel led to a vigorous debate.

NYU’s Jewish Voice for Peace (JVP) and Students for Justice in Palestine (SJP) chapters held a public “teach-in” Thursday evening in Kimmel on the topic of the African migrant crisis in Israel, which led to intense back-and-forth between audience members that at times bordered on vitriolic, as the participants discussed issues of race, immigration and deportation.
