DAILY TROPICAL UPDATE: African dust returns to Houston this weekend


Tropical Storm Chris is sitting nearly stationary off the East Coast and expected to become a hurricane today or tonight. Meanwhile, the remnants of Beryl have a 50% chance of regenerating into a tropical depression or storm as it moves near the Bahamas later this week.

Meteorologist Travis Herzog says there are no tropical threats to the Gulf over the next five days because another large dust cloud from Africa’s Sahara desert will blow in a tremendous amount of dry air.

Water temps in the main development region remain well below normal, and more heavy dust is coming out of Africa. Travis says that when these two conditions are prevalent in the Atlantic, tropical development is normally inhibited.
