Charleston’s African American Museum gets $100,000 from New York Life | Business

Chipping away at the final $2 million for the International African American Museum in Charleston, New York Life has donated $100,000.

Construction on the waterfront museum near the Maritime Center is set to start later this year, with an opening in 2020.

The grant will help support the Family Life Center, which will allow guests to trace their ancestry, according to the announcement Thursday.

“As a company committed to supporting the African American community and celebrating its culture and history, New York Life is honored to help the IAAM establish an international research and educational hub,”  Heather Nesle, vice president of corporate responsibility for New York Life, said in a statement….
