The absolute last thing Brehanna Daniels expected after graduating from Norfolk State University in 2016 was that she’d become an over-the-wall tire-changer on a NASCAR team — a dangerous and physically demanding job that men had been doing almost exclusively for 70 years.

But there she was at the recent Coke Zero 400 in Daytona Beach, clearing the wall eight times to change front tires on Ray Black Jr.’s No. 51 Chevrolet Camaro. Although stats aren’t always reliable, Daniels is thought to be among only a half-dozen women to service a Monster Energy Cup Series car on pit road.
