Caution on Black unemployment rate | Commentary

The unemployment rate for African Americans fell to a record low in April.

The U.S. Labor Department reported that the unemployment rate for African Americans reached 6.6 percent, the lowest level on Labor Department records dating to 1972.

Robert Johnson, the founder of BET, credited President Donald Trump with improving the job outlook for African Americans.

“When you look at African-American unemployment, in over 50 years since the Bureau of Labor Statistics has been keeping the numbers, you’ve never had two things: African-American unemployment this low and the spread between unemployment among whites and African Americans narrowing,” Johnson said on CNBC’s Squawk Box.
