Caribbean Premier League 2018: Fawad Ahmed thrives as Steve Smith, David Warner blow hot and cold

WE’VE passed the halfway point in the Caribbean Premier League, with 18 of the 30-regular season matches in the rear view mirror and the race to the finals well and truly on.

Leading the charge are the Trinbago Knight Riders, who sit on top of the table with four wins from six matches. They’ve been helped along the way by Fawad Ahmed, who has been the best of the Australians in this year’s CPL.

Without a state contract in Australia right now, Ahmed sits fourth on the wicket-taking list in the CPL, with eight poles to his name at just 18.25 runs apiece. No spinner has fared better, which is some feat in a tournament featuring tweakers of the calibre of his Trinbago teammate Sunil Narine and South African sensation Imran Tahir.
