Black barbershop event promotes health in Evansville


The Evansville Commission on the Social Status of African-American Males held its 8th annual Indiana Black Barbershop Health Initiative Saturday.

The event is held at seven different Evansville barbershops. It offers free blood pressure, glucose, and body mass screenings for the public.

The event also offered free screenings for diabetes, cholesterol, and high blood pressure.

Eyewitness News stopped in to Superfresh on Lincoln Avenue and talked with a volunteer about helping make this event possible.

“We want to try to and do our part to make sure our community is getting educated and bringing it to a place where we know where the African American males will be,” said Jamila Smith.
