Biometric rules expand to European, Middle Eastern and African Nationals

Travellers from all European, Middle Eastern and African countries will now be forced to provide their fingerprints and head shots at the border along with their visa applications.

Pre-authorization is already required for all foreign nations travelling to Canada by air but on Tuesday the extra step of providing biometric data will come into effect.

“Biometrics collection will help the Government of Canada to establish and confirm a person’s identity – including identifying known criminals and those who may pose a threat to Canada – at the earliest opportunity,” a statement from Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada reads.
