Beloit Daily News – News, Beloit City Council passes 2019 budget

BELOIT – In the Beloit City Council’s busiest meeting of the year, the council approved a 2019 operating budget, amended City Manager Lori Curtis Luther’s contract and passed changes to the city’s comprehensive plan.

Before getting to the city’s $96 million 2019 budget and other key issues, the council recognized Walter Knight, Beloit’s first African American city councilor, with the honorary naming of the Portland Avenue Bridge.

Council President Kevin Leavy said Knight’s legacy with the Rock County Opportunities Industrialization Center (OIC) was the perfect pairing with one of Beloit’s bridges. The center served disadvantaged individuals, helping them build occupational and social skills to launch successful careers.
