BBC World Service – Newsday, African-American ring shout sung in Africa


Ring Shout – a religious dance created by Africans in America three centuries ago – returned to its spiritual home this week when a group from the Gullah Geechee area in the US performed the dance in Sierra Leone. The leader of the Geechee Gullah Ring Shouters, Griffin Lotson, told Newsday the history of the folk music.
